Unlock the power of Bookish Notes at Art of Learning Leadership Academy. Save time with efficient book summaries. Build a strong knowledge foundation
Sometimes I feel like I’m whistling in the dark. I don’t feel like I’m making much of a difference in the world. And yet, I keep going on, and wonder why. I have been reviewing and summarizing books since 2004. People have always told me how I have a knack for getting to the heart of books by picking out the important parts. For many years, I wanted to offer book summaries for sale, but I didn’t want to do what other companies were doing. Sometimes I felt guilty because it was a goal I wasn’t acting on. I didn’t want to create a product simply to create it.
Over the years, professionals have told me they have access to a book summary service through their employer. However, there were many times when they read summaries they were interested in but didn’t get what they needed from them. After a lot of thought and planning, the Art of Learning Leadership Academy membership site was born. It’s still a work in progress because I’ll update my offering to serve my ideal clients. My offering when I started differs from what I offer now.
On my membership site, Art of Learning Leadership Academy (AOLLA), I have Bookish Notes. A Bookish Note is more than a book summary. Think of it as a book summary on steroids. It includes book groupings, discussion questions, Avil Beckford’s Musings, the one action to take, big ideas, key takeaways, and insights. In the Musings section of Bookish Notes, I share the knowledge I've gained through my lifetime of reading. Recently, I added audio, a reading worksheet, a reader cheat sheet, practical applications and three important lessons.
Based on a theme, I curate the Bookish Notes and turn them into a course. When someone takes a course, they get at least 10 Bookish Notes, so they are exposed to multiple perspectives and points of view on a topic and have a solid knowledge foundation on which to build. They save time by not having to read individual books. Since many books are off the beaten path, members can access hidden wisdom.
Traditional book summary services have categories, which are similar to themes. But themes are more intentional. And when you go through a course, you have a strong foundation on a topic on which you can build.
Many professionals and busy executives subscribe to book summary services like Headway, Blinkist, and getAbstract because they want to save time while increasing their knowledge. They're able to read or listen to these summaries and get the gist of what a popular book is about. Here are some key benefits of book summaries.
Time Efficiency: Summaries provide a condensed version of the book, allowing you to understand the main points without spending hours reading the entire text.
Pre-reading Evaluation: They help you decide if you want to commit time to reading the full book based on your interest in its themes and ideas.
Reinforcement of Key Ideas: If you have read the entire book, summaries can serve as a quick reference or reminder of key concepts or arguments.
Aid for Memory Retention: They help you remember information better by highlighting important points and details that might be forgotten.
Enhanced Comprehension: Summaries often simplify complex ideas presented in books, making them easier for readers to understand.
Accessibility: Book summaries make knowledge more accessible for those who may not have access to certain books due either to cost or availability issues.
If you’re like some executives who don’t get what they need from traditional book summaries, why not try my Bookish Notes? When you read a Bookish Note, you’ll read the book faster because you’ll have the helicopter view of the book and you’ll have a place to hang information from the book.
